About MY-HACK

Empowering Muslim youth through innovation and impact.

Welcome to MY-HACK 2026, a hackathon where high school and college students come together to build technological solutions that uplift the Muslim community. Organized by the Mafiq Foundation, this event fosters creativity, learning, and spiritual empowerment through technology.

MY-HACK is not just a tech event — it's a transformative journey for Muslim youth to create real-world solutions that address urgent social, cultural, and ethical challenges facing our communities today. Designed as a weekend-long innovation sprint, this hackathon brings together high school and college students from across the USA to harness the power of AI, data, design, and community-driven creativity.

New to hackathons? A hackathon is a short, high-energy event where teams build a working project from scratch in a set window of time — for us, that's 27 hours. By the end of the weekend, your team submits your project — code, a short demo video, and a live link — for judging. See the full submission guide →

Innovate with Purpose

Faith, Technology, and Social Impact — young Muslims using technology to solve real challenges facing our communities and the Ummah.

Why show up

What you'll walk away with.

Never built anything before? That's normal here — mentors are on-site the whole event to help with ideas, design, code, and your pitch.

🌙

Network

Meet other Muslim students and mentors building for the same causes you care about.
🛠️

Learn new things

Pick up design, code, pitching, or project skills — mentors are on-site to help all weekend.
🚀

Create a project of your own

Walk away with something real you built, from idea to demo.
Ideation

Three directions to inspire your project.

These are starting points to help you find an idea — not a category you need to declare. Pick whichever resonates, mix and match, or bring something entirely your own. Every project should connect back to a real challenge facing our communities.

01

Community & Trust

Build tools that help Muslim communities connect, organize, and protect one another — from mosque governance and collaboration to safety, privacy, and resilience against scams and threats.

02

Truth & Responsible Tech

Build tools that help people navigate today's information landscape responsibly — verifying claims, understanding AI, and finding reliable knowledge.

03

Service & Stewardship

Build tools that turn knowledge into action — connecting people to real service opportunities, and helping communities use resources like food, water, and energy wisely.

What each role looks like.

Mentor — support teams with tech, ideation & pitch prep

Help students troubleshoot and move from idea to prototype using tools like web/app frameworks, AI coding assistants (ChatGPT, Cursor), Figma, GitHub, Devpost, or no-code platforms — you don't need to know them all, just one or two well.

Commitment: 7-hour shift, rotating between teams.
You'll do: Help with ideation, debugging, and aligning projects to judging criteria (impact, innovation, feasibility, execution, presentation). A short orientation and food are provided.

Event Team — keep the day running smoothly

Commitment: 5–7 hour shift.
You'll do: Check-in & registration, meal/supply distribution, workshop support, event setup/breakdown, opening & closing ceremonies, and chaperoning participants.

Judge — evaluate final projects & give feedback

Commitment: 4–5 hour judging shift, using a provided scoring rubric.
Qualifications: College track — 2+ years professional experience. High school track — at least a college junior, preferably in CS or a related field.
You'll score projects and give constructive feedback on impact, feasibility, and presentation.

Questions

FAQ

Do I need to have a team before the hackathon starts?

No problem, there's a team formation session to help you find one that day.

Do I need coding experience?

No. You can contribute through design, research, business, writing, public speaking, project management, or problem-solving — teams need every kind of skill, not just engineers.

Do I need to bring a project idea?

No. Suggested tracks are above, but you're also welcome to bring your own idea based on a real challenge in your community.

Does my project need to be fully finished?

No. A functional prototype, mockup, or clear demonstration of the idea is acceptable.

Do I need a parent consent form?

Yes — every participant needs a parent or guardian to complete and sign our consent form before the event. Print it and bring the physical copy to check-in on September 5. See the Prep & Policies page for the form and full details.

What should I bring?

A laptop and charger are the essentials. Also bring your phone charger, a reusable water bottle, and any personal medication. Meals are provided, so pack light.

Is this an overnight event?

No — the venue is open 8 AM–11 PM Saturday and 8 AM–5 PM Sunday, and there's no on-site overnight stay. That doesn't mean the hacking stops, though: when the venue closes Saturday night, keep building wherever you land — the goal is to walk back in Sunday morning with real progress, all the way through to the submission deadline. Full details are on the Prep & Policies page.

Will food be provided?

Yes — meals and snacks are included throughout, along with scheduled prayer breaks.

Will transportation be provided?

Limited support may be available if requested in advance — reach out to the organizers ahead of the event.

Can I invite family or friends to see the projects?

Yes! Sunday's showcase and judging is a great time to bring people by — teams pitch their projects, and it's more fun with an audience. Invite whoever you'd like to come see what you built.
